Learning from mistakes
On a more positive note, a lot of things are going smoother now. After a few weeks, I'm used to most of the regular tasks. I also notice it's getting easier to speak English without translating in my head, first. That comes in handy when a student comes to the reception with a question. I like the fact that I'm actually able to help the students now (for example by making them a letter for the bank) instead of constantly having to say: "Sorry, I'm not sure, please ask ." I also work on improving my English writing skills by updating the Operating Manual, so it's clear for myself and future interns what needs to be done and how to do it.
Last Friday, I went to Vita - a student residence where a lot of the students live. But it's not like any student residence I have ever seen. It looks like a hotel. When you enter, you find a reception and you have to say that you're a visitor. Every student can have one visitor and has to sign for you. Downstairs is like a big living room with lots of couches where everyone can sit. The rooms are upstairs. There is also a movie room with a huge sofa where you can watch movies or listen to music. Then, we went to a club. The clubs here are so crowded! And the later it gets, the more people (mostly girls in tight dresses and high heels) you have to literally step over, because they've fallen on the ground and can't get up.. In the Netherlands, drunk girls become best friends in the bathrooms. Here, the atmosphere feels a little more agressive. The club we went after that, was less crowded and it had Spanish music - great! We even did some salsa dancing (or in my case - tried to), that was very fun.
On Sunday I went shopping, which is great here. There are many great stores and brands that we don't have in the Netherlands. I might have a lot more luggage when I go back. But hey, I need some souvenirs, right? ;)
